Spirited A Spirited Movie Review
A new musical version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is sure to stir up some spirited discussion. Apple TV+’s Spirited, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, puts a spin on the familiar story by turning it into a musical. And while the genre can certainly be a hit or miss (and I think most will agree that it’s usually a bit of both), this one has a lot going for it. The film is a fast-paced and entertaining family-friendly movie that’s not afraid to push the boundaries of tradition. It is definitely an original take on the story, though, and even though it sometimes falls a little short of its high ambitions, it delivers enough laughs to keep it fun for the whole family.
Rather than focusing on Ebenezer Scrooge or his Cratchett-like coworker, the focus of this film is on the ghosts that haunt him. In this adaptation, Marley (Patrick Page) runs an entire afterlife operation that “does A Christmas Carol” each year. ซีรี่ย์จีน ออนไลน์ sends the spirits of Past (Sunita Mani), Present, and Yet-to-Come to bully rotten souls like Reynolds’ ruthless marketing consultant Clint Briggs into becoming better men — or women, as in this case.
Each spirit spends a year of research to find the next target. As they prepare for this year’s scaring, Present decides that the best candidate is a randy, womanizing advertising executive named Carrie (Rose Byrne). Despite ซีรี่ย์จีน ออนไลน์ that she’s unredeemable, he allows her to lead him to his next victim.
What follows is a heartwarming, funny, and thought-provoking tale that proves a little different twists on the old holiday classic can be just as good if not better than what we’ve all come to expect from this type of film. While it may not quite match the magic of Elf, it’s still a solid effort from a talented cast and some truly delightful music.
This film is currently streaming on Apple TV+. It also received a limited theatrical release back in 2022, with a special sing-along version in theaters, so you can always choose to watch it that way if you prefer.
It’s been almost two decades since Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau gave us Elf, a rare four-quadrant success that perfectly balanced sweet with salty. It’s a tightrope that’s difficult to walk, but Spirited manages to stay on balance for most of the movie, and despite some missteps, it’s a fun ride. It’s no Muppet Christmas Carol, but it comes close, and the chemistry between Reynolds and Ferrell is undeniable. Plus, the original songs by Oscar- and Tony-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman) are delightful. ซีรี่ย์จีน พากย์ไทย is that it’s a little too long. But, it’s worth a look.
