Mojang's breakout smash Minecraft was ranked second in Google's list of the most popular YouTube search queries of 2014. Tlauncher The game ranked right just behind "music" in terms of search frequency.

According to Google the term "Minecraft" was more frequently searched on YouTube in 2014 than "movies." PewDiePie is a popular gaming character, was also among the top searched terms on YouTube in 2014. This was the reason behind searches for Disney's Frozen as well as for artists Drake and Beyonce.

Google reports that users are more likely to search for gaming-related content, and that engagement is rising even though many of those surveyed don't identify themselves as gamers. YouTube videos in the "Gaming" category topped the top of the service's Top 10 most popular list on 25 different days in October 2014.

According to the report it was revealed that a Google Consumer Survey was conducted in October 2014 with people who said they had watched gaming videos on YouTube. It revealed that only 37% of respondents thought themselves gamers. The report continues: "We also wanted to find out why they watch videos from creators like PewDiePie and SkyDoesMinecraft. Many of them replied, "Because they are hilarious!"
