In a resounding decision on 12-12-2023, the European Parliament overwhelmingly supported a proposal by MEP Kim van Sparrentak
(Green Party) with 545 votes in favor, 12 against, and 61 abstentions. The proposal aims to establish a
'right to not be disturbed' by social media, emphasizing the need to mitigate addictive elements.
In alignment with this, the Official Public European Netherlands Network (OPENN) has launched a new
feature—an online countdown timer—empowering users to monitor and manage their time spent on social platforms,
promoting a healthier online experience.
